I just visited a young couple walking hand in hand smiling to the world. Their story is very simple like anyone’s.
Love, hope and trust in any promise.
They are students. She came from Hawaii, him from Southern Virginia and they left the campus moving into an apartment to live together.
A few days after their arriving in the new place they lost the jobs. No help from parents, no friends, no car.
After intensive search for a new job they found a few hours in a restaurant. The small money makes with difficulty the rent.
The empty apartment unfurnished, a deep forest leafless before the rude winter.
The waste streets in the November rain, dark the witch life tries to steal their youth. They have to work on Thanksgiving Day; they don t bother with the turkey dinner.
I drove through the same rain after seeing them thinking of life, of love. It s not right for anyone in the world to run out of a meal on the Holidays table….
But on the other hand they smile in the empty apartment, the stars replace the furniture and they sleep facing the hope and the moon over the tomorrow s streets.
